The Penguins have reduced their training camp roster down to 27 players, assigning both defenseman Juuso Riikola and forward Michael Chaput to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the American Hockey League.
Both players will report to the AHL club’s training camp.
Riikola is in the second of a two-year contract signed with the team last year, while Chaput signed a two-way contract with the team over the summer.
In the Penguins final preseason tune-up game on Saturday, Chad Ruhwedel, Bryan Rust, Teddy Blueger, and Jason Zucker all chipped in goals for the team en route to a 4-3 overtime win over Columbus.
The Penguins have the day off tomorrow and will return to practice on Monday before flying to Tampa Bay, where they will be the NHL's season opener on Tuesday at 7:30 PM on ESPN.
