Here are your Pens Points for this Tuesday morning...
The Penguins once again clashed with the New York Rangers last night, following Pittsburgh’s exciting 5-4 OT win against the Blueshirts on Saturday. In a game where the Penguins had six power-play opportunities, they failed to convert on a single one of them. Whereas all the Rangers needed was one chance with the man advantage to score and take a 2-1 lead. New York would close out the game with a 3-1 win. [Recap]
Defenseman Kris Letang was unavailable for yesterday’s contest, but coach Mike Sullivan recently labeled his star blue liner as ‘day-to-day,’ which is a positive takeaway considering the Penguins’ defense is not looking so hot. [Post-Gazette]
With Letang out and Brian Dumoulin placed on long-term IR retroactive to January 26, all eyes are now on the likes of second-year player John Marino and the recently-recalled rookie, Pierre-Olivier Joseph. [Penguins]
The Pens made another transaction yesterday, recalling defenseman Will Reilly from the taxi squad. [Penguins]
Did you notice the Penguins’ “Reverse Retro” jerseys last night? Last night’s game was the first of many to feature these new alternate sweaters. [Trib Live]
To say former Penguins netminder Matt Murray has struggled in his brief time with the Ottawa Senators would be putting it mildly. The two-time Stanley Cup winner has looked like a completely different goalie to begin the season, and not in a good way. Is it the bad team in front of him or is it something else? What in the world has happened to Matt Murray? [Post-Gazette]
News and notes from around the NHL...
The New Jersey Devils have been hit with a COVID-19 outbreak, meaning the team’s next three games, at least, including two games with the Penguins, have been postponed to a later date. [All About The Jersey]
Will the NHL and its Department of Player Safety ever reach a level of consistency when it comes to nasty head shots? [Eyes On The Prize]
Tony DeAngelo went unclaimed through waivers yesterday after the former New York Rangers defenseman allegedly got into an altercation with goaltender and teammate, Alexandar Georgiev. What is next for the team and player? [NBC Sports]
