Penguins name Chris Pryor as Director of Player Personnel

Since taking over as General Manager of the Penguins several weeks ago, Ron Hextall has made his first hiring of someone who will work under him.

The Penguins have hired Chris Pryor as the new Director of Player Personnel. The news was announced Saturday morning.

Pryor’s role with the team will be to help oversee scouting in North America and Europe and assist with all player personnel decisions.

“Chris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience and is a welcome addition to our hockey operations staff,” said Hextall in a press release.

With more than 25 years experience in scouting and management, Pryor served in various roles with the Philadelphia Flyers from 1999 to 2019, including being one of Hextall’s assistant general managers from 2016-18.

While being involved in talent scouting with the Flyers, some notable draft picks made during his tenure include:

  • Travis Sanheim
  • Ivan Provorov
  • Travis Konecny
  • Carter Hart
