Following the Penguins holding practice today, head coach Mike Sullivan held court and chatted about a variety of things, including providing some updates on the injury status of a few players.
After Jared McCann left the Pens’ game on Saturday against the Islanders, he did not skate in Monday’s practice.
Coach Sullivan: "Jared McCann is being evaluated for a lower-body injury. He obviously did not skate today. We'll probably have more of an update tomorrow. Mike Matheson left practice and is being evaluated as we speak."

An update on McCann’s status is expected later tomorrow.
There was also an unfortunate injury that ended Mike Matheson’s day. Matheson collided with a teammate during practice and was down for a bit, before leaving the ice.
Matheson is hurt after colliding with a teammate. He stays down and is tended to by head athletic trainer Chris Stewart before skating off on his own accord and going to the locker room.

Matheson was being evaluated for an injury on Monday. Perhaps we’ll get an update on his status tomorrow as well.
When asked about dealing with the amount of injuries the team is dealing with and how they can handle it, Sullivan said “We can’t get discouraged. We’ve got to get more determined.”
The Penguins may have some help coming on the defensive front.
Marcus Pettersson skated yesterday morning with the taxi squad.
Brian Dumoulin and Juuso Riikola haven’t skated as of yesterday morning but Sullivan says they’re going through off-ice rehab work.
Coach Sullivan said Marcus Pettersson skated this morning with the taxi squad. "He's getting closer." Dumoulin, Riikola and Rodrigues have not skated yet and are still going through their off-ice rehab process.

The same goes for injured forward Evan Rodrigues.
The Penguins don’t play again until Thursday when they’ll take on the New York Islanders again.
