The Penguins open position for general manager may be coming closer to being filled.
Following Jim Rutherford’s shock resignation less than two weeks ago, a short list of candidates to replace him had trickled out. That list included Ron Hextall, Mike Futa, Chris Drury, John Ferguson Jr., Mike Gillis, Tom Fitzgerald, and a few others.
Since then, Chris Drury has removed himself from consideration and received a promotion with the New York Rangers.
Late last night, an update came in from Elliotte Friedman.
Ron Hextall had second interview in PIT. We will see where this week takes us.

Friedman says that Ron Hextall has had a second interview with the Penguins.
Following Rutherford’s resignation, it was said that the Penguins would like to have the position filled in 2 to 3 weeks.
With tomorrow hitting the two week mark and Hextall reportedly having a second interview, one might assume that the team has its shortlist of candidates and might be making a decision coming up here soon.
What do you say, Penguins fans? Would you be happy if Hextall was the new GM?
